About the Black-necked Stork
The Black-necked Stork, also known as the Jabiru, is one of Australia’s most striking and graceful birds. With its shimmering blue-green neck, long red legs, and powerful black-and-white wingspan stretching up to 2.3 metres, it’s a breathtaking sight gliding over our northern and eastern wetlands.
But this magnificent bird is becoming increasingly rare. Across New South Wales, Black-necked Stork populations are in decline due to wetland loss, pollution, water extraction, and habitat fragmentation. As one of the state’s top wetland predators, their disappearance would disrupt delicate ecosystems that countless species rely on.
